A Projection Mapping Workshop with Joanie Lemercier from AntiVJ about projected light in space, unusual projection formats and contexts, and about his work within the visual label AntiVJ.

This is a unique opportunity to get a hands-on approach with advanced Projection Mapping techniques and content production for architecture and in-situ audiovisual pieces. The workshop will explore the various artistic and technical aspects, as well as rules and constraints. The participants will study the structure of Oslo Opera House, try different tools and softwares (linear production and realtime tools) to generate visuals for its very specific architecture.

At the end of the workshop, there will be a night of projections tests on site, with a 10 000 lumens projector, and this will be an opportunity for workshop participants to visualise their images and content projected on a large scale on the Opera house.

The workshop starts with an open lecture by Joanie Lemercier at ANX (Olaf Ryes plass 2, inng. Sofienberggt. Oslo) on MONDAY JANUARY 30th 2012 at 19:00.

On Tuesday January 31st the workshop continues at The Oslo School of Architecture and Design before the night of projections starts at 23:00 outside at The Norwegian Opera.

The next LUX event is confirmed as taking place on 8-10 July 2011 in Wellington, New Zealand. The format will be similar to Oslo Lux – a mix of local and international artists, researchers, designers and architects will map out the overlaps of light, space and interaction. The event will take place over 2 1/2 days, and is timed to coincide with Te Aomarama, a Maori festival of light.

We are very pleased to announce the two main keynote speakers at Oslo Lux 2011: United Visual Artists and AntiVJ.

United Visual Artists (UVA) is a British-based collective whose current practice spans permanent architectural installation, live performance and responsive installation, with numerous cutting edge installations and events to their name.

ANTIVJ is a visual label initiated by a group of European artists whose work is focused on the use of projected light and its influence on our perception.

Stepping away from standard setups & techniques, AntiVJ present live performances and installations, providing to the audience a senses challenging experience.

We are delighted to announce the first group of confirmed speakers at the Oslo Lux seminar.

Adam Pruden is a researcher and project leader at MIT’s Senseable Lab. He will be talking about the extraordinary Flyfire project.

HC Gilje is a renowned Norwegian digital artist who also developed VPT, a software tool that allows for the dynamic projection of multiple video sources onto physical objects.

Anthony Rowe is founder and creative lead of digital arts group Squidsoup, and also Associate Professor of Interaction Design at the Oslo School of Architecture and Design.

Stig Skjelvik built and designed Dobpler, an interactive LED grid and public artwork.

Kjetil Austvoll-Dahlgren will be talking about his light and emergent behaviour-based project, The Void Which Binds.

“Ocean of Light“, a project by digital arts group Squidsoup that explores the visualisation of virtual movement spaces in physical 3D space, will be on show at the Oslo School of Architecture and Design‘s gallery during Oslo LUX. The gallery is adjacent to the seminar room, and the artists will also be presenting the project to delegates.

The event will also act as a pilot for a biennial festival and symposium containing elements that appeal to the general public, professional practice and academic research.
